Job Title: Summer Honors Internship Program - Labor and Employment Law Division
Job Responsibilities:
The Summer Honors Internship Program offers interns hands-on practical experience within the Law Department's varied divisions. Interns are tasked with drafting motion papers and briefs for court filings, and those in the Tort Division may take or defend depositions and participate in pre-trial court proceedings. Interns involved with the Special Federal Litigation Division work on trials with a trial team throughout the summer. In the Family Court Division, interns regularly interview victims and witnesses and make court appearances. The program is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the legal process and the opportunity to actively participate in legal proceedings.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Summer Honors Internship Program should be law students, specifically second-year students for the 2026 program, although first-year students may apply after December 1, 2025. The Law Department seeks individuals committed to public service, justice, and the common good, with a variety of backgrounds to bring diverse perspectives to the office. Candidates should also contribute to a work environment that values teamwork, inclusion, and respect. Experience in moot court, trial advocacy, debate, public speaking, or litigation/mediation clinics or internships is particularly sought after for those applying to the litigating divisions.
Salary Information:
Interns in the Summer Honors Program receive a $750 weekly stipend during the nine-week program. Additionally, free summer housing is available for out-of-town interns, concurrent with the summer program.
Application Process:
Applications are currently being accepted from second-year law students, with first-year students eligible to apply after December 1, 2025. Applications must include a cover letter, resume, two writing samples, an unofficial transcript, and a list of three references, including their names, titles, email addresses, phone numbers, and a brief description of their relationship to the candidate. Candidates should specify their primary division of interest in their cover letter, along with any additional divisions of interest. It is recommended that applicants review the application guidelines before submission. Applications should be addressed to the Director of Legal Recruitment at the **Members Only**.
