Job Title: Senior Counsel – Patent Law, Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Job Responsibilities:
The role of Senior Counsel in Patent Law for Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry involves significant responsibilities in developing, implementing, and executing global intellectual property strategies for the company's therapeutic products and product candidates. This includes, but is not limited to, small molecules and peptides, related to compositions, polymorphs, formulations, processes, and methods of manufacturing. The Senior Counsel will work both individually and as part of legal teams, as well as on cross-functional R&D and business teams across various geographies. The position can be remote or based in one of the company's locations in Thousand Oaks, CA; Cambridge, MA; or South San Francisco, CA.

Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with scientists to identify patentable subject matter.
- Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications worldwide.
- Conducting prior art searches and analyzing patents.
- Preparing freedom-to-operate opinions and conducting due diligence in support of licensing activities.
- Negotiating and drafting research agreements.
- Analyzing trademark and copyright issues.
- Providing legal advice and counsel to R&D and business partners on various IP-related matters.
- Assisting with litigation-related matters and challenging/defending patents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a . degree or . degree from an accredited law school, with admission to practice law in a . jurisdiction. Additionally, candidates must have four or more years of experience practicing intellectual property law and be registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office. Preferred qualifications include ten or more years of experience practicing patent or intellectual property law, particularly in biotechnology, at a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical corporation. An advanced degree such as a master's degree or . in organic or medicinal chemistry is also preferred. Candidates should possess excellent analytic, legal drafting, oral and written communication skills, strong management and leadership skills, and a strong client service focus. Experience in . and/or foreign adversarial proceedings, such as patent litigation or Inter Partes Reviews, is also advantageous.

Salary Information:
The expected annual salary range for this role in the United States, excluding Puerto Rico, is between $255, and $297,. The actual salary will vary based on several factors, including relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
