Job Title: Corporate Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Corporate Counsel provides actionable legal advice and guidance to the organization and its affiliates concerning the legal implications and considerations of current or prospective programs, services, agreements, and/or contracts. The role involves reviewing official correspondence and records to ensure legal compliance, determining the legal impact of statutory and regulatory requirements and developments, and acting as a liaison with outside counsel. The Corporate Counsel works under general direction and is responsible for:
- Providing counsel on a range of legal issues affecting the operations of the organization.
- Identifying and analyzing commercial and healthcare issues, drafting/negotiating key documents, presenting actionable recommendations, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Supporting other members of the Legal team on both provider and health plan matters.
- Counseling staff on member, patient, and care-delivery issues, advising on matters of member enrollment/disenrollment, patient admission/discharge, and difficult-to-serve patients/members.
- Ensuring that contracts by which the organization is, or will be, legally bound accurately reflect the organization's objectives. This includes negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts for IT, clinical services, and health plan-provider arrangements.
- Keeping abreast of the legal impact of legislative and regulatory developments affecting the policies and operations of the organization.
- Delineating and advising on the appropriate roles and interactions of the component corporations within the organization's family of corporations.
- Assisting and advising with respect to corporate transactions and related legal and regulatory issues.
- Advising on legal issues and associated implications relating to specialized or new programs, models of care, or lines of business such as population health, behavioral health, regional expansion of existing programs, and new clinical partnerships.
- Interacting with outside legal counsel and internal Legal, Risk, and Compliance staff.
- Providing clear legal guidance to business teams by liaising directly with business leaders.
Education and Experience Information:
Licenses and Certifications:
- Current registration to practice law in New York State is required.
Education:
- A Juris Doctorate is required.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of three years of experience in New York and Federal health care law and contract drafting and negotiating is required.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills are required.
- Health care experience in a law firm setting is preferred.
Salary Information:
The pay range for this position is between USD $122, and USD $164, per year.
