A highly respected law firm in Southeast Michigan is seeking a Senior Associate Attorney to join its Trusts & Estates Practice Group. This role is ideal for an experienced attorney with deep knowledge in estate planning, trust administration, probate, and tax planning for high-net-worth clients. Duties

  • Develop comprehensive estate plans based on individual client goals

  • Advise clients on gift and estate tax implications and tax minimization strategies

  • Handle probate matters, including asset valuation, debt settlement, and court proceedings

  • Administer trusts in compliance with legal standards and trust terms

  • Assist in complex wealth transfer strategies, including:

    • CRUTs

    • SLATs

    • GRATs

    • FLPs

    • QPRTs

    • IDGTs

    • ILITs

  • Represent clients in succession planning, fiduciary accounting, and will/trust contests

  • Draft legal documents, including family settlement agreements and tax filings

  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to ensure understanding of complex legal concepts

  • Manage sensitive client information with confidentiality and professionalism

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in estate planning, trust and estate settlement, and tax-related legal matters

  • Previous experience advising high-net-worth individuals and families

  • Interest in client development and long-term relationship management

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan, in good standing

Skills

  • Deep understanding of estate, trust, tax, and probate law

  • Exceptional drafting skills and legal precision

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for clients
