Job Title: Pittsburgh Director
Job Responsibilities:
1. Direct Service Leadership, Policy Advocacy & Litigation (35%)
- Oversee the delivery of legal services in Western Pennsylvania, ensuring culturally-competent services that prioritize racial justice.
- Direct the day-to-day work of the Pittsburgh-based staff.
- Ensure the overall quality of service delivery and effective human resources allocation.
- Coordinate with the Philadelphia-based Legal Director to identify individual and systemic representative matters.
- Handle a select caseload of individual and systemic representative matters.
- Identify and address policy advocacy opportunities at local, state, and federal levels.
2. Community Partnerships & Coalition Building (25%)
- Represent the organization in the community by developing and enhancing productive, collaborative, and culturally-competent relationships with community partners, families, policy makers, school districts, and other not-for-profits in Western Pennsylvania.
- Develop and oversee implementation of community outreach, education, and training plans.
3. Development, Engagement & Reporting (25%)
- Engage with existing and potential Board members representing the organization in Western Pennsylvania.
- Support ongoing development efforts, including participation in grant writing and donor cultivation to ensure sustainability of the Pittsburgh office.
- Ensure compliance with grant agreements, contracts, and other committed deliverables.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in funder reporting and communication, and work with other directors on programmatic and fiscal reporting and funding applications for major funding streams.
4. Leadership & Collaboration (15%)
- Serve as a member of the leadership team, participating in leadership meetings and contributing to strategic work plans that focus on the mission and racial justice.
- Lead participation in local and statewide team meetings, projects, and advocacy initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff functions in the Philadelphia office to ensure effective and consistent management of the Pittsburgh office operations.
- Coordinate with the Philadelphia office and consultants regarding public relations and communications in Western Pennsylvania.
- Oversee implementation of statewide employee and other policies, ensuring compliance with procedures and law.
Education and Experience Information:
- A licensed attorney with over 10 years of experience in a company or nonprofit organization, law school, court system, law firm, corporate law department, relevant government agency, or other legal system organization.
- Preferably possesses litigation experience and experience with education law and/or policy.
- Demonstrated interest in public interest law, civil rights, racial justice, and advancing the rights of underserved populations.
- Management experience in leading with inspiration and vision.
- Experience in advocacy, providing legal advice and representation, education, community outreach, and managing the delivery of services.
- Experience in hiring, onboarding, and supervising a strong team.
- Experience with donor/funder outreach is a plus.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with capacity to manage multiple complex projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
