Job Title: Fall Internship

Job Responsibilities:
Interns for Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of the operations within the Washington . and District offices. The responsibilities include:

- Managing phone calls from constituents to ensure effective communication and assistance.
- Assisting with constituent casework to support the needs and concerns of the community.
- Answering constituent requests and sorting mail to maintain organized and efficient office operations.
- Attending community meetings, briefings, and events to represent the office and gather pertinent information.
- Assisting with planning official events to help facilitate successful community and office engagements.
- Supporting community outreach efforts to strengthen community relations and engagement.

The internship is structured to expose interns to diverse areas such as constituent services, scheduling, office administration, press and communications, and community outreach.

Education and Experience Information:
While the internship program is open to a broad range of candidates, certain preferences and requirements are highlighted:

- Enrollment in a higher education institution is not mandatory, but course credit sponsorship is available if applicable.
- The program values diverse lived and professional experiences that align with serving the Illinois 4th District effectively.
- Candidates with ties to IL-04 are preferred but not a requisite.
- The office encourages applications from women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and members of other marginalized communities.

Salary Information:
Interns are compensated at a rate of $15 per hour unless they are substantially sponsored by an external organization. House rules require that all paid House of Representative employees must be United States citizens or Legal Permanent Residents unless financially sponsored by an outside organization.

Additional Information:
The Chicago and Suburban District Offices operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Central Time. The internship period runs from June 17, 2025, to August 30, 2025.
