Job Title: Child Protection Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Child Protection Attorney will handle child-in-need-of-aid cases within the Child Protection section. This role involves managing a heavy caseload focused on litigation. Additionally, the attorney may have opportunities to work on child welfare policy and participate in special projects aimed at improving the child welfare system in Alaska. The position is based in Palmer, and the attorney will take on a Palmer-area child protection caseload. Flexible schedules and work-from-home arrangements may be available. Attorneys in this section enjoy the scenic beauty of Alaska and can engage in outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, and kayaking.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates should ideally have two years of trial experience and experience in child abuse or neglect law, although applications from individuals at any experience level will be considered. Applicants must possess or demonstrate the ability to develop strong critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and time management skills. Effective consensus building and flexibility are essential. The role requires a creative thinker who can reason and make decisions quickly under pressure. A commitment to the child welfare field and the ability to work with various stakeholders, including the client agency, the public, and witnesses, is necessary.

Salary Information:
The compensation for this position varies based on experience and location. The estimated base pay for different Attorney levels is as follows:
- Attorney 1 (Unlicensed attorney): Pay range 18 D or E, Base pay $87,282-$90,012
- Attorney 2 (Less than two years of licensed experience): Pay range 20 C or D, Base pay $96,,840
- Attorney 3 (More than 2 but less than 4 years of licensed experience): Pay range 22 B or C, Base pay $106,,
- Attorney 4 (More than 4 years): Pay range 24 B through F, Base pay $121,836-$139,542

Geographical pay differences apply, with base pay adjustments for locations such as Fairbanks (+3%), Juneau and Sitka (+5%), Kodiak (+11%), Nome and Dillingham (+37%), Bethel and Utqiagvik (+50%), and Kotzebue (+60%).

Benefits & Compensation:
The role offers a comprehensive state benefits package, including health benefits (dental and vision), life insurance, and voluntary supplemental benefits. Generous leave accrual starts at 21 days a year, with 12 paid holidays.
