Tax Senior - Credits & Incentives
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Senior in the Credits & Incentives (C&I) role is responsible for identifying eligible federal C&I activities and managing the analysis and documentation of such opportunities. This position requires navigating businesses through unfamiliar territory related to evolving legislation and claim paperwork. The role involves working collaboratively with a team across various departments such as Tax, Advisory, Consulting, and Audit and Assurance. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing federal credits and incentives opportunities, including Research and Development tax credit/deduction analyses, New Markets Tax Credit, Qualified Opportunity Zones, Sustainability and Renewable Energy tax credits, and other federal credit incentive service offerings
- Delivering value to clients by identifying opportunities and advising on potential benefits and eligibility requirements
- Maintaining and developing strong internal and client relationships
- Leveraging extensive technical skills to solve complex issues
- Demonstrating sound judgment in evaluating complex scenarios involving various credits and incentives opportunities
- Developing, mentoring, and motivating Consultants, providing counseling and career guidance
- Identifying potential issues and proposing solutions to leadership, as well as implementing process improvement strategies
- Ensuring accurate and timely delivery of engagement deliverables, which may include presentation decks, executive summaries, credit calculations, completed tax forms, supporting files, memoranda, and IRS audit responses
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax developments and working with the team to present potential opportunities to assist clients
Education and Experience Information:
Required qualifications for the Tax Senior role include:
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model, requiring in-person co-location 2-3 days per week
- Ability to travel up to 25%, based on the work and clients served
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, engineering, technology, or a related field
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a related field
- Proven knowledge of R&D tax incentives or experience with New Markets Tax Credits, Qualified Opportunity Zones, or Renewable Energy tax credits
- Demonstrated analytical and research skills, along with effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and proactively develop internal and external working relationships
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing priorities
- One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain: Licensed CPA in the state of practice/primary office, if eligible to sit for the CPA; if not CPA eligible: Licensed attorney, Enrolled Agent, Project Management Professional (PMP), Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA), or Professional Engineer
Preferred qualifications include:
- Advanced degree such as a Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM
- Experience with tax technical research tools (., CCH, Hein, Lexis, RIA, etc.)
- Experience with Federal or State and Local C&I
- Experience with sustainability technologies or environmental sciences
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA or law firm
Salary Information:
The wage range for the Tax Senior role considers various factors, including skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate is $66,570 to $151,580. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, and it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Additionally, candidates may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, where awards depend on individual and organizational performance.
