Job Title: Attorney (Fair Housing)
Job Responsibilities:
The Fair Housing Attorney will have a range of responsibilities centered around assisting clients, primarily property owners and managers, in navigating fair housing laws to avoid potential liabilities. Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing fair housing issues for clients and providing appropriate guidance.
- Drafting letters addressed to residents, fair housing advocacy groups, and opposing counsel to communicate and negotiate on fair housing matters.
- Preparing agreements related to reasonable accommodations and modifications to ensure compliance with fair housing laws.
- Reviewing lease documents to assess and ensure compliance with fair housing regulations.
- Drafting opinion letters that provide legal interpretations and recommendations on fair housing issues.
- Providing fair housing training sessions, which could be conducted live or via webinars, for clients and industry organizations to educate them on compliance and best practices.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Fair Housing Attorney position should possess the following qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor (.) degree and an active California Bar license are mandatory.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience practicing in the field of landlord-tenant law and/or fair housing law.
- Demonstrated excellence in legal writing and negotiation skills.
- The ability to quickly assimilate facts, conduct analysis, and prepare responses under tight deadlines.
- Strong independent judgment and the ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Proficiency in interpersonal communications and computer skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in both fair housing and landlord-tenant law.
- Familiarity with Pro Law software.
- Previous experience in public speaking or conducting webinar training sessions.
- Experience in writing articles for industry-related publications.
- Experience in affordable housing law.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
Salary Information:
The position offers a salary range of $100,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience. Additionally, the compensation package includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid vacation, and sick time.
Schedule:
This is a full-time, exempt position with business hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Friday.
