Summary:

The Tax Experienced Senior, Core Tax Services at BDO is responsible for utilizing research skills and applying tax foundational knowledge to understand potential tax issues and provide tax compliance services to clients. The role also involves tax planning, risk assessment, and preparation of tax returns for review. The Tax Experienced Senior, Core Tax Services will act as the main client contact for general questions and information and may also supervise and review the work of Core Tax Services Associates.

Experience:

- Three (3) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, preferred
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred
- Prior basic supervisory experience, preferred

Salary Information:

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

- California Range: $96,000 - $125,000
- Colorado Range: $85,000 - $95,000
- Illinois Range: $90,000 - $108,000
- Maryland Range: $95,000 - $110,000
- Minnesota Range: $80,000 - $95,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $100,000 - $120,000
- Washington Range: $87,400 - $120,000
- Washington DC Range: $100,000 - $115,000

Job Duties:

- Ensures compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens for clients and self
- Manages tax projects and communicates expectations and procedures with preparers
- Conducts detailed reviews and raises potential tax issues
- Meets internal deadlines and identifies book-to-tax differences
- Manages project budgets and schedules resources
- Identifies research needs and reports analysis
- Applies Firm and professional standards for preparation of tax returns
- Applies policies and standards for FAS 109 and FIN 48 tax accruals
- Prepares provision workpapers and discusses with team members
- Identifies and discusses uncertain positions with team members
- Reviews and prepares footnote disclosures in compliance with 740-10-55
- Utilizes and manages STS
- Drafts tax provision memorandums
- Communicates with Assurance counterparts for timely tax accrual reviews
- Assists with developing and implementing efficient and effective methods to reduce tax liability for clients
- Identifies consulting opportunities and provides support for consulting projects
- Gathers relevant information for controversy work
- Documents all significant tax positions and ensures proper documentation is archived
- Develops new ideas to improve client, Firm, or personnel positions
- Prepares studies of tax implications and offers alternative courses of action

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, required OR Bachelor's degree in other focus area and CPA certification, required
- Master's in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to follow instructions and prepare simple tax returns
- Takes appropriate actions without being asked
- Seeks advice of superiors regarding compliance issues
- Able to delegate work and train team members
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills
- Able to work well in a team environment
