Salary: Depending on qualifications, the Professor of Practice may be eligible for appointment as Assistant Director of the Clinic with additional responsibilities. The Assistant Director appointment includes a financial stipend.

Summary:
The **Members Only** is seeking a Professor of Practice for the Lewis B. Puller, Jr. Veterans Benefits Clinic. This position is responsible for providing instruction to law students and legal services to veterans in support of their claims before the . Department of Veterans Affairs and the . Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. The ideal candidate will have a JD, valid state bar license, VA accreditation, and admission to practice before the . Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims or eligibility for same. Prior experience representing veterans in disability compensation claims, clinical teaching, and veteran status are preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Teaching: Bi-weekly seminar instruction, evaluating student performance, working with students to understand legal authority, guiding and advising students on work with clients, overseeing outreach activities, advising students on practical legal work, and preparing students for ethical and reflective practice of law.
- Case Work and Client Representation: Assisting with the operation of the Puller Clinic as a small law office, including selecting clients, representing clients in claims before administrative bodies and courts, interviewing clients and witnesses, monitoring and supervising student work, making decisions on the method of pursuing cases, giving legal advice to clients, and working with students and medical professionals to develop evidentiary support for cases.
- Outreach and Fundraising Activities: Assisting with outreach and fundraising activities, including interacting with elected officials, writing grants and proposals, and serving as principal investigator for awarded grants.
- Consulting and Coordinating: Consulting and coordinating with the Puller Clinic Advisory Board as tasked by the Director.
- Military Mondays: Coordinating and conducting Military Mondays, the advice and counsel sessions held at a local Starbucks.
- Organizing and Supervising: Organizing conferences, symposia, and educational outreach, collaborating with other organizations, and supervising clinical fellows when necessary.
Qualifications:
- JD and valid state bar license required.
- VA accreditation and admission to practice before the . Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims or eligibility for same.
- Knowledge of and experience with representing veterans in disability compensation claims.
- Client-based experience, advocacy experience, and superior research and legal writing skills.
- Virginia Bar License, or willingness to seek admission to Virginia Bar.
- Prior experience in clinical teaching.
- Veteran status is preferred but not required.
