Job Title: Senior Claims Examiner - Retail Energy
Job Responsibilities:
- Actively manage commercial accounts for Energy Oil & Gas Casualty, focusing on high severity, complex general liability, and auto claims across jurisdictions in the United States.
- Identify and assess coverage issues, draft coverage position letters, and retain coverage counsel when necessary. Review opinions and analyses from coverage counsel.
- Develop and implement strategies related to coverage issues, ensuring alignment with the overall strategy for managed matters.
- Formulate and execute timely and accurate resolution strategies to mitigate indemnity and expense exposure.
- Maintain communication with claims staff, business line leaders, underwriters, defense counsel, program managers, and brokers to update on developments and outcomes.
- Investigate claims and review materials from insured parties, pleadings, and other relevant documents.
- Identify and review applicable statutes, rules, and case law for each jurisdiction.
- Review litigation materials, including depositions and expert reports.
- Analyze and direct risk transfer, additional insured issues, and contractual indemnity issues.
- Retain and direct counsel in line with resolution strategies when necessary.
- Analyze coverage, liability, and damages to assess and recommend reserves.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management detailing issues influencing evaluation and reserve recommendations.
- Travel within the United States to attend mediations, trials, and other relevant proceedings.
- Negotiate claim resolutions.
- Select and utilize structure brokers as needed.
- Maintain a diary of all claims, post reserves promptly, and respond quickly to inquiries from insured parties, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor's degree or 7-10 years of experience with a primary or excess carrier supporting commercial accounts for Casualty claims. Experience with Energy Oil and Gas claims is required if a degree is not held.
- Juris Doctorate degree is preferred but not required.
- Must hold applicable and active adjuster licensing in all designated states.
- Knowledgeable in legal, regulatory, and litigation procedural requirements for Energy.
- Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) are necessary, along with advanced skills in evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal communication to develop productive relationships across organizational lines.
- Strong time management and organizational skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate and drive strategic discussions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Intermediate experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10%.
