Patent Associate – Life Sciences
Job Responsibilities:
The Patent Associate in Life Sciences will be responsible for handling various aspects of patent prosecution within the law firm's Patents and Innovations department. The role involves counseling and prosecuting patent applications, primarily within the life sciences sector. The candidate will be expected to apply their expertise in fields such as cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or digital health. The associate will work closely with clients to protect their intellectual property, involving drafting and filing patent applications, responding to office actions, and conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses. The associate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific and legal information to clients and colleagues.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must have 1-4 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting and must be a member of the patent bar. An advanced degree in one of the relevant fields—such as cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or digital health—is required. Prior experience as a patent agent is preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate superior academic credentials and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within the firm and with clients.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Patent Associate position is $225,000 to $310,000, depending on the candidate’s year classification. In addition to the base salary, discretionary merit bonuses may be awarded.
