Tax Manager, Sustainability Credits
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager within the Sustainability: Gi3 practice, the candidate will be responsible for advising clients on sustainability and social Federal Credits and Incentives (C&I) programs. The role includes managing and facilitating the analysis and documentation of these opportunities, focusing on the evolving legislation in sustainability and ESG. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and facilitating Federal C&I engagements related to sustainability and ESG, including programs under the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) such as IRC section 45Q Carbon Capture Tax Credit, IRC section 48 Investment Tax Credit, and others.
- Delivering value to clients by identifying opportunities and advising clients on potential benefits and eligibility requirements.
- Maintaining and developing strong internal and client relationships.
- Demonstrating sound judgment and a quality-first mentality in evaluating eligibility for various fact patterns.
- Developing processes with colleagues in other technical specialties to perform benefit calculations.
- Collaborating with member firms to execute work streams like valuation studies and tax equity modeling.
- Identifying potential issues and proposing solutions to leadership, as well as implementing process improvement strategies.
- Ensuring accurate and timely delivery of engagement deliverables such as presentation decks, credit calculations, and IRS audit responses.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax developments.
- Developing and mentoring team members.
- Providing support with various internal initiatives and special tax-related projects.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required:
- Ability to work within a hybrid work model requiring co-location in person 2–3 days per week for US Tax professionals.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, law, business administration, economics, engineering, environmental studies, geology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a related field (or 2+ years with a master’s degree).
- One of the following active accreditations:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA.
- If not CPA eligible, one of the other designations based on role and business approval:
- Licensed Attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA), Professional Engineer, or GRI Certification.
- Demonstrated analytical and research skills, effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership skills with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and proactively develop internal and external working relationships.
- Ability to travel up to 25% based on work and client needs.
- Preferred:
- Advanced degree such as MST, LLM, or JD, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with tax technical research.
- Experience with Federal or State and Local C&I.
- Experience with sustainability technologies or environmental sciences.
- Previous experience with Big 4 or large CPA or law firms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role is estimated to be between $98,350 and $223,990. This range considers various factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation decisions are case-specific and depend on the facts and circumstances of each situation. Additional eligibility for participation in a discretionary annual incentive program may be available, subject to rules governing the program, which considers individual and organizational performance factors.
