Job Title: Internship Fall - Family Law Unit
Job Responsibilities:
Interns at the organization will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks depending on their availability and experience. The responsibilities include:
- Providing client services and advocacy, particularly for those who can commit more time or are available for a longer period.
- Conducting intakes and gathering information for case preparation.
- Performing smaller research projects.
- Assisting staff with case preparation.
- Attending court/hearing observations.
- Participating in orientation and learning opportunities about the organization's work.
- For summer interns and those in longer-term programs like a co-op, there will be additional opportunities to assist in case work and provide direct service to clients.
- Depending on experience, skill level, and relevant certifications (including 3:03), direct representation on certain legal matters may be possible.
- Attending additional events, learning opportunities, and trainings.
Education and Experience Information:
The internship is open to law and undergraduate students, among others. The organization considers all kinds of experience, not just credentials, and encourages applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. Work study applications are considered and reviewed based on the same process and for the same sorts of work. Interns are encouraged to plan for 10 hours a week of work during the academic year, with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate academic and work schedules. Summer interns are expected to work full-time (35 hours a week, five days a week) for approximately 10 weeks, with modifications possible based on the school or program’s requirements.
Salary Information:
The organization currently does not compensate interns directly, but will support and assist candidates who have secured alternative sources of funding. They will promptly prepare needed paperwork when requested and accept fellowship applicants, participating in work study programs operated through schools.
