Estate Planner/Fiduciary Counsel - Chicago, Illinois

Salary: $170,000-$195,000 (actual salary will vary based on skills, experience, and qualifications)

Job Description:

The Estate Planner/Fiduciary Counsel will be responsible for reviewing clients' estate planning and trust documents, advising Client Advisors and clients' lawyers on technical matters, and identifying potential trust and estate tax issues. They will also review estate planning documents to determine if Bessemer can accept appointment as fiduciary, provide legal expertise to resolve fiduciary issues, and advise on internal fiduciary procedures. The role also involves business development, attending industry events, and writing articles for professional journals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Review clients' estate planning and trust documents and advise on technical matters
- Identify potential trust and estate tax issues for clients and Client Advisors
- Prepare memos or letters for clients with recommendations
- Review estate planning documents to determine if Bessemer can accept appointment as fiduciary
- Provide legal expertise to resolve fiduciary issues
- Advise on internal fiduciary procedures
- Participate in industry events and develop intermediary contacts for business development
- Write articles for professional journals
- Stay up to date on legal and estate planning trends through seminars, conferences, and research
- Work with philanthropic advisory group and tax department on charitable planning
- Serve as a resource for state laws specific to region
- Travel to client and prospect meetings and annual department retreats

Qualifications:

- 5+ years of relevant estate planning law practice or wealth management/trust company experience
- Experience drafting or administering documents for clients
- . and active registration with a State Bar Association
- . in taxation preferred
