Job Responsibilities
- Prosecute and defend civil and criminal matters in trial, appellate courts, and administrative forums.
- Provide written or verbal legal advice to clients and draft legal documents with legal implications.
- Investigate facts related to legal issues and resolve clients’ legal problems in various forums.
- Handle criminal and civil matters of substantial complexity and perform mentoring functions with less experienced attorneys.
- Make decisions and counsel clients, victims, or police regarding court proceedings.
- Draft and file necessary legal documents to conduct litigation and proceedings.
- Appear in court to select juries, present evidence, make legal arguments, and act as an advocate.
- Prepare witnesses to present testimony effectively in court.
- Counsel and advise clients confidentially on legal issues during litigation and non-adversarial contexts.
- Prepare non-testimonial evidence for use in court.
- Negotiate settlements or assist in solving legal problems.
- Conduct and supervise investigations in civil and criminal discovery proceedings.
- Develop knowledge and expertise in applicable areas of law to stay current with developments.
- Work efficiently and effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Perform all other related duties, as assigned or required.
Education and Experience Information
- Juris Doctorate (JD) degree required.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and a member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas.
- Prior experience in the relevant area of law is essential.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, procedures, case holdings, and departmental policies is essential.
- Possess analytical ability, diplomacy, tact, good judgment, and common sense.
- Proficient verbal and written skills to communicate with courts, attorneys, investigators, police agencies, and citizens.
- Responsible for working cooperatively with support staff and investigators.
- Must be computer literate.
Salary Information
- Salary range: $79, - $119, annually (Salary commensurate with experience).
