Job Title: Associate Court Attorney JG - 30
Job Responsibilities:
The role of an Associate Court Attorney involves research and analysis of complex legal issues and questions. The individual in this position will be responsible for the supervision of attorneys and support staff situated in one or more courts across a county, judicial district, or department. They serve in a confidential capacity under the supervision of judges or groups of judges in various courts, including Supreme Court, County Court, Surrogate's Court, the Court of Claims, Family Court, District Court, the Criminal Court and Civil Court of the City of New York, and City Courts with two or more full-time judges. Duties include researching and analyzing legal questions and issues, writing confidential legal memoranda, drafting confidential opinions, and conferring with lawyers on unusual or complex proceedings. Additionally, they will review legal documents filed in connection with such proceedings.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Associate Court Attorney, candidates must have admission to the New York State Bar and five (5) years of relevant legal experience, which can include up to 18 months of pre-admission experience.
Salary Information:
The base salary for the position of Associate Court Attorney is $123,228, with an additional $4,920 as location pay.
General Information:
The position is classified as non-competitive and confidential and is assigned to the Law Department in the Bronx County Surrogate’s Court. While the position is currently available at a specific location, the appointee may be subject to reassignment to any position in the same title within the promotion unit, depending on the needs of the Unified Court System. The announcement indicates that all applications received may be used to fill any vacancies in this title that may occur in this court or agency within the next six months.
