Salary: $107,629
Qualifications: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Senior Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience.
The Appellate Division, 3rd Department, Mental Hygiene Legal Service is seeking qualified candidates for one (1) Associate Attorney position. The selected candidate will serve in a confidential capacity and be responsible for researching legal questions and issues, organizing complex investigations, and presenting complex cases before administrative tribunals and trial and appellate courts. They will also provide legal research and advocacy services in the Mental Hygiene Legal Services, attorney disciplinary committees, 18B panel administration, or other units, and may oversee a departmental law guardian program.
Position Assignment: The selected candidate will be assigned to the Albany Regional Office of the Third Department's Mental Hygiene Legal Service. In this role, they will provide legal services and assistance to individuals in mental hygiene facilities, including those operated or licensed by the Office of Mental Health and the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities. They will regularly appear in judicial and administrative proceedings related to retention, care, and treatment of individuals in mental hygiene facilities. Trial experience is preferred, and a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.
