The . Department of the Interior (DOI) is responsible for the nation's premier conservation efforts, with a mission to protect and manage natural resources and cultural heritage. As part of this important work, the Office of the Solicitor is seeking talented and dedicated law students for their Legal Internship Program. With nearly 200 practicing attorneys at the headquarters office and over 300 attorneys nationwide, this is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and make a difference in conservation law.

The Legal Internship Program is open for applications from March 1 to May 1 for the Fall semester. This opportunity is available for first, second, and third-year law students, as well as law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs. Native American candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, as the DOI has unique responsibilities in supporting programs for American Indians and Alaska Natives.

As a legal intern at the Office of the Solicitor, you will have the opportunity to participate in complex civil litigation before administrative tribunals and assist the Justice Department in litigating matters before federal courts. This includes conducting legal research on a variety of environmental and administrative law issues, as well as issues involving Indian law. You may also have the opportunity to attend hearings and meetings in the Washington . area. Additionally, you will assist with drafting legal memoranda, briefs, and motions, and participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with other agency counsel and officials.
