Job Title: Assistant Vice President, Claims, E&S
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and execution of claims strategies to manage loss costs and enhance customer satisfaction, supporting the company's business objectives.
- Direct the Complex Claims Department, ensuring high productivity, efficiency, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with local, federal, and state regulations related to claims, minimizing risk/exposure to the company.
- Foster a departmental culture focused on communication and collaboration.
- Drive the planning, organizing, and leadership of all claim programs, metrics, processes, results, and initiatives across the E&S casualty excess claims unit.
- Manage and develop Claims staff with a focus on talent management and succession planning, aligning with corporate strategic direction.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Risk Management, Actuarial, and other stakeholders to share knowledge on market trends, legal changes, portfolio management, and loss developments.
- Oversee staff performance and implement strategies for staff development, addressing training needs continually.
- Formulate cost containment strategies for claims operations, managing allocated and unallocated expenses.
- Assist in developing annual operational goals, objectives, and budgets for the Claims Department.
- Ensure accurate and timely case reserving.
- Communicate effectively with Underwriters, brokers, and reinsurers on relevant claim developments.
- Attend mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and trials as necessary.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate degree preferred.
- 10-12 years of experience in a legal environment or the insurance industry, managing teams supporting commercial accounts for high exposure Excess Casualty claims, litigation, and coverage.
- Proven people management and development skills in a service/account management role.
- Detailed technical knowledge of general liability claims handling, with the capability to advise on complex injury and coverage cases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to develop productive relationships with internal and external peers and professionals.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and present information clearly and succinctly.
- Capable of participating in strategic discussions.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15%.
- Hybrid role requiring two days in the office.
Salary Information:
- Base salary range: $150,000 - $175,000/year.
- Position is incentive eligible.
- Total compensation includes base salary and short & long-term incentives, considering factors such as geographic location, role scope, qualifications, talent availability, specialization, and business needs.
