Staff Attorney-Housing - Empowering Communities through Legal Advocacy
Law Foundation is seeking a passionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join our Housing Team in San Jose, CA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide direct legal representation to low-income tenants, engage in policy advocacy, and participate in impact litigation and community education and outreach. We are looking for someone who is committed to social justice, race equity, and working with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct representation to clients in unlawful detainer (eviction) proceedings and carry an individual caseload
- Engage in policy advocacy, including research and writing, writing reports, and meeting with elected officials to advocate for anti-displacement policies and tenant protections
- Assist and lead fair housing and impact litigation, including research, writing, and depositions
- Investigate potential systemic issues and participate in community and client education and outreach activities
- Support program and organization-wide initiatives, including race equity
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a people-centered approach to service delivery
- Provide legal support to non-attorney staff and pro bono volunteers assisting with client intake and legal services
Requirements:
- Current member in good standing with the California State Bar or plan to sit for the next California bar exam
- Experience with a high-volume caseload, including representing tenants in unlawful detainer actions
- Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve client problems
- Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external teams
- Experience in policy advocacy, community lawyering, and working with diverse populations
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese preferred
- Passion for social justice, race equity, and serving underserved populations

- Annual salary range of $80,000- $105,000, based on experience
