Organization Overview:
Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (LASP) provides civil legal services to low-income individuals in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. They are currently seeking a Staff Attorney to join their team in the West Chester office.
Responsibilities:
• Interview clients, determine eligibility for services, and gather facts
• Conduct legal research and interpret laws and regulations
• Provide advice and counsel to clients
• Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and motions
• Develop strategies and arguments for cases
• Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies
• Review decisions and consult with management for potential appeals
• Participate in professional and community organizations
• Conduct clinics, education workshops, and community outreach
• Collaborate with LASP team to achieve office and program goals
• Develop knowledge of referral resources and assess community needs
• Enhance skills and knowledge through training opportunities
• Abide by professional standards of ethics and practice
• Complete administrative tasks and maintain case files
• Ensure compliance with grant requirements and assist with grant reports
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania or eligible for admission
• At least 2 years of experience preferred
• Proficiency in word processing, Outlook, case management software, and legal research tools
• Passionate about public interest law and serving low-income individuals
• Strong written and oral advocacy and organizational skills
• Willingness to accept complex and challenging cases and develop creative strategies
