Staff Attorney-New Port Richey Fellow: Providing Legal Services to Low Income Clients

Bay Area Legal Services, a non-profit legal services organization, is seeking a part-time attorney for its New Port Richey office. This is a temporary position that is scheduled to end on December 31, 2025. The Fellow will facilitate or directly provide qualified legal services to low income clients in the areas of elder law, consumer law, housing, landlord-tenant disputes, and family law.
Location: New Port Richey, FL
Salary: Starting at $60,350 (increases based on relevant experience)
Illustrative Duties:
- Conduct legal research assignments to assist attorneys with legal issues in various areas of law.
- Conduct weekly intake with clients seeking services in elder law, housing, family, consumer, and civil litigation matters.
- Provide pro se forms assistance for seniors and domestic violence survivors.
- Engage with the community through outreach opportunities.
- Represent clients at hearings under attorney supervision.
- Assist in organizing and developing pro bono clinics.
- Generate self-help materials and collaborate with law schools in the Sixth Circuit.
- Provide support to attorneys by performing administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) and Florida Bar licensed and in good standing with the Bar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Understanding and compassion for the social, economic, and legal issues faced by low-income individuals and the elderly.
- Ability to relate well and effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a non-profit legal services or public interest firm.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills.
Compensation:
- Starting salary of $60,350 with increases based on relevant experience.
- Reimbursement for travel expenses.
