Position Title: Staff Attorney

Job Summary: The Staff Attorney provides a wide range of civil legal representation, advocacy, and outreach to low-income individuals. The civil litigation will primarily focus on areas such as housing, consumer issues, education, federal income tax, elder law, employment, family law, probate, and public benefits. However, the attorney may work in other priority areas of law depending on the needs of the clients.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide civil legal representation to low-income individuals.
- Engage in advocacy and outreach efforts to support those in need of legal assistance.
- Handle civil litigation primarily in areas including housing, consumer issues, education, federal income tax, elder law, employment, family law, probate, and public benefits.
- Potentially work in other areas of law as required by client needs.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be a member of the SC Bar.
- Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedures, Rules of Evidence, Rules of the Family Court, and Rules of Appellate Procedure is essential.
- Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills are required; bilingual skills are a plus but not mandatory.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office 365, are necessary.
- A desire to work with diverse people and communities is important.
- A commitment to public interest or poverty law is expected.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
