Associate/Associate Counsel, Physical Production Legal - Business and Legal Affairs
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a contact for below-the-line legal matters arising during various production stages including development, pre-production, production, post-production, and launch.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate below-the-line production agreements with moderate oversight, ensuring alignment with company and industry standards and deal contexts. This includes agreements such as physical production department head agreements, casting director agreements, line producer agreements, and short-term production services agreements among others.
- Communicate solutions clearly and succinctly to internal production and business partners as well as external producers and production personnel during negotiations.
- Efficiently resolve issues without causing delays, adapting to the fast-paced nature of production legal work.
- Establish and maintain strong internal relationships with cross-functional partners including Production Management, Post Production, VFX, Business Affairs, Labor, Finance, Health and Safety, Tax, Real Estate, and Risk Management teams.
- Exercise sound judgment and curiosity regarding matters of first impression or complex issues.
Education and Experience Information:
- An undergraduate degree is required, with a JD or Paralegal certification accepted but not mandatory.
- At least 2 years of proven experience in a similar business/legal affairs role in the film or television industry.
- Must be able to work proactively and reliably on multiple projects under tight timeframes in a fast-paced production environment, with the ability to quickly assess risk and exercise strong judgment in the face of ambiguity.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a solutions-driven mindset.
- Ability to organize, clarify, and communicate complex ideas quickly, succinctly, and accurately.
- Confidence in counseling business partners and making decisions that have legal and business impacts.
- Ability to remain flexible and respond positively to changes.
- Tech-savvy individual, including proficiency with Google Suite and cloud-based document and database systems.
- Ability to flourish in the unique company culture, reflecting its values and leadership expectations.
Salary Information:
- The compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary with no bonuses. Employees choose each year how much of their compensation they want in salary versus stock options.
- The range for this role is $70,000 - $350,000, determined by market indicators and considering specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine compensation within the market range.
