A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Natural Resources Associate Attorney with 1–5 years of relevant experience to join its California-based offices. The ideal candidate will have exposure to both state and federal natural resources law, including litigation, regulatory compliance, permitting, and public agency work. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact environmental and infrastructure matters while collaborating with experienced legal professionals across multiple offices.

Duties

  • Represent clients in natural resources litigation and administrative proceedings

  • Advise on strategic water supply planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance

  • Assist with groundwater rights adjudications and water utility-related legal matters

  • Provide counsel on CEQA and NEPA compliance

  • Draft and review legal documents, including memoranda, regulatory filings, and transactional documents

  • Navigate federal, state, and local permitting processes for infrastructure and water projects

  • Collaborate with public agencies on issues including Propositions 26 and 218

  • Conduct legal research, prepare legal analyses, and present findings to clients and teams

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of experience in natural resources, environmental, or public agency law

  • Background in litigation, administrative law, or infrastructure permitting

  • Knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, and California water law strongly preferred

  • Ability to work on complex, multi-jurisdictional matters with minimal supervision

  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills

Education

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

  • Strong academic performance required

Certifications

  • Admission to the California State Bar preferred (or ability to become admitted in a timely manner)
