Job Title: Legal Supervisor LGBTQ Team, NIJC

Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Supervisor at the organization is responsible for overseeing a legal team that provides legal representation and counseling to non-detained immigrants seeking asylum. The supervisor will supervise a team of attorneys and paralegals, ensuring quality legal counsel and representation. Key responsibilities include:

- Supervising legal services and overseeing paralegals, attorneys, interns, and support staff.
- Developing case strategy, preparation, and representation before governmental agencies.
- Ensuring accurate data entry by paralegals, attorneys, and interns.
- Overseeing and reviewing legal intakes and making legal assessments and determinations regarding representation.
- Ensuring timely case preparation, including case opening, preparing filings, trial preparation, appeals, case closures, and other case management practices.
- Collaborating with the supervisory team to build a strong team and oversee the team’s projects.
- Providing recommendations based on case trends to inform project-based strategic decisions.
- Maintaining and developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Conducting factual and legal research.
- Providing legal representation to immigrants in immigration proceedings.
- Drafting correspondence and documents, including applications, briefs, and reports.
- Improving the delivery of legal services, including the use of technology to improve efficiency.
- Conducting legal presentations regarding law and cases to organization staff and members of the immigrant community.
- Maintaining accurate, thorough, and timely records.
- Identifying trends and emerging issues and responding to issues.
- Maintaining current knowledge regarding immigration law and policies and procedures.
- Advancing an anti-racist organization that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Reacting productively to change and handling other essential duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
To perform successfully in this role, an individual must meet the following requirements:

- Education and/or Experience: A Juris Doctorate, a license to practice law, and at least 3 years of experience in the legal field, preferably in immigration law. A bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience as a Department of Justice accredited representative is also acceptable. Previous supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English and Spanish is required, along with oral and written communication skills. Competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills are required. Additional non-English language skills are preferred.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook/Exchange.
- Driving: A current, valid IL Driver's License may be required. The ability to drive one's own vehicle or an organization vehicle to and from sites may be necessary.
- Reasoning Ability: The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Legal Supervisor position ranges from $72,000 to $84,600 per year. The position is full-time and includes insurance benefits such as medical, dental, vision, STD, and LTD. Other benefits include PTO, sick days, personal days, 11 company holidays, parental leave, FSA, HSA, and commuter benefits.
