Job Title: Litigation Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal representation to insureds and/or the company before trial courts, arbitrators, and mediators in all aspects of litigation.
- Handle cases from inception to conclusion, which includes preparing legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, and negotiating settlements.
- Leverage relationships with claims partners to prepare timely litigation reports.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients and claims partners throughout the litigation process.
- Review and analyze written discovery, depositions, medical records, and assess the value of claims to determine risk exposure.
- Represent insureds in lawsuits from initial pleadings to case conclusion, including discovery and trial preparation.
- Prepare initial pleadings, conduct and defend depositions, prepare written discovery, perform legal research, prepare and argue motions, attend court hearings, handle arbitration hearings, and mediations.
- Work with more experienced attorneys in preparing and trying cases, mostly handling District Court cases.
- Prepare timely and comprehensive reports to the Claim Department as required by company reporting guidelines.
- Provide legal advice to Claim Representatives on various insurance and tort issues.
- Maintain regular communication with clients throughout litigation.
- Independently manage a case load from inception to conclusion.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: . from an accredited Law School.
- Admission to the Bar in the jurisdiction(s) in which the office is located and practices is required.
- Experience: 0 - 4 years of relevant litigation experience.
- Prior civil litigation experience preferred but not required.
- Experience within the insurance industry preferred but not required.
- Trial experience preferred but not required.
Salary Information:
- Compensation: $80,000 - $125,000 depending upon experience and relevant qualifications.
Additional Information:
- This is a hybrid position with required travel to all courts located in Connecticut when necessary.
- Candidates must reside within a reasonable driving distance of the Branford, Connecticut office.
