Introduction
Thank you for your interest in the **Members Only**' Student Internship Program. This program provides college students with valuable field experience in their chosen area of study. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work in various Local and Area Offices, as well as the CP&P and DCF Central Offices. This is a great opportunity to gain real-world experience and enhance your skills in a professional setting.
Education Requirements
To be eligible for the Student Intern Program, you must be a current college student. Please note that certain factors, such as a criminal background check or a driving record with multiple violations, may disqualify you from consideration.
Office: Legal Affairs
If you are interested in interning for the Office of Legal and Legislative Affairs, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks within several units. Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with various agencies are essential for this role. Your responsibilities may include legal research and summarization of Appellate and Supreme Court Decisions that impact the department. Additionally, you will work closely with two specific units within the office.
Administrative Hearings Unit
In this unit, you will assist with processing written statewide requests for administrative appeals. This may include cases related to substantiated and established findings of abuse/neglect, Office of Licensing actions, relative resource denials, DDD eligibility and service needs, and adoption/KLG subsidy denials. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all appeals are administered according to applicable laws and regulations. This may involve reviewing documentation and preparing for Office of Administrative Law hearings. You may also be asked to assist with writing Final Agency Decisions.
Immigration Unit
The immigration unit works closely with Department staff to address immigration issues faced by the populations served by DCF. You will have the opportunity to provide education to local offices and other Department employees on topics such as special immigrant juvenile status and U-Visas. You will also have the chance to network with other agencies and stakeholders to help clients access available immigration services and assistance.
