Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney at a reputed firm is responsible for providing comprehensive legal representation primarily addressing issues related to housing insecurity, such as eviction prevention and overcoming legal obstacles to housing stability. This role requires active participation in courtroom proceedings and offering phone advice and consultations. The attorney will also handle legal matters in the area of consumer law. The responsibilities include:
- Screening clients for eligibility and making necessary referrals
- Conducting initial and follow-up interviews with clients to gather information
- Performing factual investigations, analyses, and legal research as necessary
- Developing case theories and strategies for effective representation
- Keeping clients informed about case progress and advising them on available options
- Preparing necessary legal documents, including complaints, answers, memoranda of law, and briefs
- Representing clients in negotiations, hearings, trials, and appeals
- Monitoring and closing client files in accordance with program policies
- Entering time records promptly as per program policies
- Maintaining case files according to reputed firm standards
- Engaging in community outreach and participating in professional organizations
- Staying updated on legal developments and changes in the law
Education and Experience:
Candidates must be admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania or be admitted in another jurisdiction with eligibility for admission in Pennsylvania. Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, are required. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal and client service skills. The ability to efficiently travel to locations outside the reputed firm office when necessary is also required.
Physical Requirements:
The position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The candidate must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
