**Job Title**: Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal)

**Job Responsibilities**:
As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division, the primary responsibility is to prosecute federal crimes, which encompass a wide array of offenses. These include drug trafficking and smuggling, child exploitation, gang activity and violence, illegal immigration, national security and border security issues, elder abuse, cybercrime, theft of intellectual property, and financial crimes such as complex fraud or corruption in government, healthcare, banking, securities, corporate activities, federal procurement, bankruptcies, and federal taxation. The role involves collaborating with law enforcement agencies to investigate these crimes, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents such as motions and search warrants, and representing the United States in various legal settings including hearings, trials, and appeals. As attorneys gain more experience, their responsibilities will increase in complexity.

**Education and Experience Information**:
Applicants for this position must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be an active member in good standing of a bar in any . jurisdiction. The candidate must have at least three years of experience as a licensed attorney, which may include post-law school judicial clerkships, in preparing for, participating in, and/or reviewing formal hearings or trials involving litigation at the federal, state, or local court level. The job requires . citizenship. Preferred qualifications include strong academic credentials, excellent organizational skills, superior legal writing and research abilities, demonstrated analytical and judgment skills, effective courtroom skills, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.

**Salary Information**:
The salary for the Assistant United States Attorney position ranges from $99,311 to $195,100 per year. This is determined administratively based on the number of years of professional attorney experience and includes a % locality pay. The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, telework options, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in life event management services and the Federal Employees Retirement System.

**Additional Requirements and Information**:
- **Security and Background Checks**: Initial employment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, which includes fingerprinting, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation.
- **Residency Requirements**: Assistant United States Attorneys must generally reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
- **Selective Service Registration**: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify their registration with the Selective Service System or provide proof of exemption.
