Job Title: Workers' Compensation Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Gathering and reviewing medical evidence and medical records to support case preparation.
- Conducting depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other relevant parties to gather testimony.
- Engaging in discovery to collect necessary information for case development.
- Performing thorough legal research to support case strategies and legal arguments.
- Staying updated with current developments and changes in workers' compensation law.
- Drafting various legal documents, including pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other necessary legal correspondence.
- Litigating workers' compensation cases before an administrative law judge to advocate for clients effectively.
- Representing employer or insurer interests at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.
- Communicating with claims representatives to ensure accurate and timely case management.
- Monitoring loss run reports for trends and increases, alerting management to any concerns that arise.
- Assisting with accident investigations and identifying problem areas to mitigate risks.
- Managing workers' compensation costs to reduce liability for the employer or insurer.
- Compiling and submitting reports as required by company management for review and decision-making.
- Coordinating and attending claims reviews to ensure comprehensive case evaluations.
- Negotiating settlements on behalf of the insurance company or employer to resolve cases effectively.
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support the legal team and clients.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree and proof of admission to the Illinois Bar or Missouri Bar are required; passing the bar in another Midwest state is considered a plus.
- A proven track record of 3+ years of experience in workers' compensation defense work is necessary.
- Working knowledge of legal principles and practices is essential for success in this role.
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing workers' compensation is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook is mandatory; familiarity with Perfect Law legal software is preferred.
- Maintaining firm and client confidentiality is required to uphold ethical standards.
