Overview:

Metropolitan Family Services, a leading non-profit organization in Illinois, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join their Legal Aid Society team in Decatur, IL. This full-time position offers a hybrid work schedule and provides legal representation to victims of crime, with a focus on human trafficking and immigrant victims. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor degree and active Illinois Bar membership or admission within 3 months. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred.

Responsibilities:

- Use client-centered, trauma-informed techniques to provide high-quality legal services to clients
- Interview clients, identify legal problems, provide advice, and assess for other legal and supportive needs
- Handle a full caseload of varying complexity, using advocacy, negotiation, and litigation to favorably resolve issues for clients
- Maintain accurate and timely case files and data
- Identify systemic issues affecting communities and participate in developing strategies to address them
- Provide training, consultation, and support to agency staff
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor degree and active Illinois Bar membership or admission within 3 months
- 40-Hour Domestic Violence Certification within 12 weeks of employment (if not already certified)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred
- Relevant experience in general practice of law preferred
