**Job Title: Deputy District Attorney - IV**
**Job Responsibilities:**
- Perform professional legal work within the District Attorney's Office.
- Prepare and present civil and criminal cases in court.
- Work on a full range of legal activities involving the investigation or prosecution of complex criminal or civil cases.
- Receive complaints, review reports filed by arresting officers or complainants, and interview complainants and witnesses.
- Subpoena witnesses and approve or refuse complaints in legal matters.
- Analyze, interpret, and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in case preparation.
- Prepare pleadings and other legal documents, examine evidence, secure and interview witnesses, and appear in court to try cases.
- Conduct advanced legal research and prepare legal opinions, briefs, and reports.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies at various levels as required by assigned cases.
- Review cases for assistance required from investigation staff and request further investigation if necessary.
**Education and Experience Information:**
- Experience: At least one year of responsible professional legal experience similar to a Deputy District Attorney III position with the organization or three years of professional legal experience in areas such as criminal law, consumer fraud, environmental protection, or asset forfeiture.
- Training: Active membership in the California State Bar is required.
- License/Certificate: May require possession of a valid driver's license and proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance.
**Salary Information:**
- Hourly: -
- Monthly: $12, - $15,
- Annually: $150, - $187,
**Additional Information:**
- Supervision: Receives direction from a Supervising Deputy District Attorney or other management staff and technical and functional supervision from a Senior Deputy District Attorney. May exercise technical and functional supervision over legal staff.
- Skills: Knowledge of legal principles and practices, rules of court, legal research methods, trial and hearing procedures, and the organization and procedures of the District Attorney's Office. Ability to analyze and apply legal principles, perform legal research, and present cases effectively.
- Work Conditions: Must be able to work under time constraints and adhere to ethical standards. Requires the ability to sit, walk, stand, and bend for extended periods and to communicate effectively with clients and the public.
- Selection Procedure: Based on education, training, and experience as evaluated through a supplemental questionnaire. Applicants must pass a fingerprint test, medical examination, and possibly a background investigation and other pre-employment tests.
