Job Title: Civil Litigation Attorney

Job Overview:
A law firm located in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a driven and dedicated Civil Litigation Attorney. This role requires candidates to have strong litigation skills, a willingness to develop trial strategies, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. This position offers flexibility with both full-time and part-time opportunities available, as well as the option for a non-exclusive “of counsel” relationship.

Duties:

  • Analyze probable outcomes of cases and develop trial strategies based on legal precedents.
  • Advise clients on claim liability, legal rights, and the advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits.
  • Conduct legal research and draft correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, motions, and discovery documents.
  • Manage and conduct pre-trial discovery.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and related documents.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, conduct depositions, and question witnesses.
  • Prepare for trial by organizing exhibits, drafting pre-trial motions, and preparing witnesses.
  • Handle large-scale document production and organization.
  • Utilize MS Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat for legal documentation and correspondence.
  • Participation in marketing and client development is encouraged.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid license to practice law, preferably eligible for the Virginia Bar.
  • At least 1 year of litigation experience (new law school graduates eligible for the Virginia State Bar may also apply).
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of legal concepts, procedures, and terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure, fast-paced litigation environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Education:

  • A Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.
  • Eligible or currently licensed to practice law in Virginia.

Certifications:

  • Must be eligible for or hold a current Virginia State Bar license.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Effective legal research and writing.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to manage case documentation and workflow independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
