Job Title: Housing and Consumer Law Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Housing and Consumer Law Staff Attorney at the organization is responsible for delivering high-quality legal services to vulnerable clients. The position involves representation in various areas of law, including housing, landlord/tenant disputes, evictions, foreclosures, utilities, public benefits, consumer issues, and other civil matters. The services provided may range from legal advice and brief service to full court representation.
In addition to direct representation, the role requires the attorney to:
- Prepare and deliver client and community education.
- Conduct intake and outreach.
- Appear in administrative and judicial forums.
- Participate actively in the bar.
- Engage in special legal and community projects.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar Association. While 1-3 years of practice is preferred, it is not a strict requirement. Experience serving low-income individuals, victims of crime, veterans, or other marginalized communities is also preferred but not mandatory.
Candidates should demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations served by the organization. They must have strong organizational and time management skills, the ability to work effectively and professionally in a highly stressful environment, and the capability to work both independently and as part of a team, which includes other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners. Excellent written and communication skills are essential, and the ability to speak more than one language is considered a plus.

Salary Information:
This is an exempt, full-time position with a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience, starting at $74, annually. The organization offers a generous benefits package, which includes health, vision, dental, and life insurance for the employee, retirement plans, 13 paid holidays, and generous annual and sick leave allocations starting at 15 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year.
