Benefits: This is a seasonal position with a limited duration of 180 working days in an 11-month continuous period. Therefore, benefits are not included.

Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to attorneys and legal divisions
- Conduct legal research under the direction of staff counsel or administrative law judge
- Attend depositions and hearings and assist with documentation processes
- Prepare, proofread, and process legal documents
- Handle correspondence with clients, witnesses, and court officials
- Assist with inquiries regarding current hearings
- Organize and plan hearing dates and secure hearing sites
- Maintain law libraries, database systems, documents, and case files
Qualifications:
- Current law school student
- Strong research and writing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures

About the Indiana Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP):
- Established in 2020 as a central and independent hearings process for administrative cases
- Staff of administrative law judges (ALJs) and legal assistants (LAs)
- Mission to provide efficient, effective, and impartial adjudicatory processes for Indiana's citizens and agencies
- Hear cases for various state agencies, including FSSA, DCS, and BMV
A Day in the Life:
- Gain hands-on experience in legal research, case management, and administrative processes
- Work with a team of ALJs and LAs
- Attend pre-hearing conferences and evidentiary hearings
- Assist with rule promulgation, statutory and regulatory research, and the development of legal charts and guides
