Job Title: Patent Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Patent Attorney is a key player in safeguarding the intellectual property portfolio of the company. The responsibilities include:

- Patent Procurement: Collaborating with engineering and research and development teams to evaluate patentability, preparing, filing, and prosecuting both domestic and international patents, and managing patent drawings.
- Product Clearance: Conducting clearance searches, analyzing potential infringements, drafting and reviewing non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and monitoring competitor patents.
- Patent Enforcement and Defense: Investigating potential infringements, aiding in responding to allegations, providing litigation support, and coordinating with external counsel.
- Other Legal Responsibilities: Offering guidance on intellectual property-related agreements, including non-disclosure, joint development, and licensing contracts, while ensuring compliance with policies and addressing broader legal matters.

Education and Experience Information:
- Required Degree: Juris Doctor (JD), along with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field, preferably mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Certifications: Must be admitted to practice law in Illinois and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant legal experience in intellectual property and patent law is required.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization. A customer service mindset is crucial, actively listening to and understanding internal and external client needs to provide effective solutions. The ability to work across multiple levels of the organization to facilitate business goals through intellectual property strategies is important. Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities are necessary to handle complex projects efficiently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to leverage legal research tools effectively are also required.

Salary Information:
- Compensation: The expected annual base salary range for this role is $145,000-$170,000. This role qualifies for an incentive plan based on individual and company performance. The salary information provided is a general guideline only, as salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
