A law firm seeks a mid-level associate attorney to join its Projects group in Houston, focusing on financing arrangements for energy infrastructure initiatives. The role is based in Houston, TX.
Duties
Collaborate on structuring and negotiating finance deals for energy, resources, and infrastructure developments
Handle aspects of liquefied natural gas (LNG) transactions, including due diligence and documentation
Partner with senior team members to draft and review project agreements, security instruments, and related contractual paperwork
Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as tax, environmental, and regulatory, to support holistic deal execution
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on emerging trends in energy finance and project development
Attend client meetings, lender negotiations, and closing sessions, contributing substantive analysis and recommendations
Requirements
3–5 years of hands-on experience in project financing for domestic and international energy, resource, or infrastructure ventures
Demonstrated involvement in LNG-related financings or similar energy transactions
Admission to practice law in Texas (waiver candidate eligibility also acceptable)
Previous tenure at a peer law firm with exposure to energy finance
Strong drive to engage in business development and client relationship building
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with attention to detail in complex transactional settings
Education
Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school
High academic standing, with relevant coursework or clinics in energy, finance, or project development preferred
Certifications
Active membership in the Texas bar (or eligibility to waive in)
Additional admissions (., New York) are considered advantageous but not required
Skills
Proficiency in drafting and negotiating project finance documents, including credit agreements and security instruments
Ability to synthesize multidisciplinary issues—regulatory, environmental, tax—into cohesive legal strategies
Entrepreneurial mindset with the capacity to identify and pursue new opportunities in the energy sector
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, especially when evaluating risk allocation in financing structures
