Job Title: Associate Attorney (Workers Compensation Defense)
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) litigation, ensuring comprehensive handling of cases from inception to resolution.
- Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with client representatives, including claims professionals, risk managers, and human resources executives, to ensure alignment and understanding of case progress and strategies.
- Prepare Initial Defense Analyses (IDAs) for new case files to set the groundwork for defense strategies and assess claim exposure accurately.
- Conduct depositions of applicants, percipient witnesses, and expert witnesses to gather necessary testimonies and evidence for case building.
- Conduct Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) evaluations to assess medical aspects and implications of workers' compensation claims.
- Appear for hearings and trials before the WCAB to represent clients and advocate for favorable outcomes.
- Bring claims to prompt, cost-effective resolutions, focusing on minimizing expenses while achieving satisfactory results for clients.
Education and Experience Information:
- Prior professional experience as a California workers' compensation attorney is required, with a strong preference for candidates with defense-side experience.
- Must be a member of the California State Bar in good standing.
- Ability to meet the minimum billable hours requirement of 190 hours per month or 2280 hours per year.
- Experience working in a paperless environment is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in MerusCase legal practice management software is preferred, indicating familiarity with modern legal technology and case management tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook is preferred, showcasing the ability to manage communications and scheduling efficiently.
Salary Information:
- The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $250,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.
This position offers attorneys the flexibility to work remotely, except for necessary in-person court appearances, depositions, meetings, and related professional obligations. Alternatively, attorneys may choose to work in-person at one of the firm's five offices located throughout California. The law firm has established a reputation over its 38 years of practice, fostering long-term relationships with many of California's largest commercial insurers, private employers, and public agencies. This role is situated within the firm's Workers' Compensation Defense Group, focusing on the defense of workers' compensation claims under California law.
