Technical Claims Supervisor - MCU

Job Responsibilities

The Technical Claims Supervisor at the company is tasked with delivering industry-leading technical claim handling and oversight, ensuring claim outcomes, business support, and customer service are of the highest standard. The role involves making claim services a competitive advantage for the company. Key responsibilities include:

- Actively managing and overseeing large exposure and complex general/auto liability and trucking claims, including primary, umbrella, and excess claims, which are directly handled by Third-party Administrators (TPAs).
- Collaborating with TPA team members, company Claim Account Managers (CAMs), and other claim professionals to proactively develop and execute appropriate claim resolution strategies.
- Working closely with underwriters, legal, operations, claim professionals, and other company functions to ensure timely and effective communication consistent with company Claims Procedures, striving to achieve optimum claim outcomes.
- Prioritizing effective and timely communication with insureds and brokers, ensuring exceptional customer service.
- Conducting coverage analysis, investigation, liability and damage evaluation, timely and accurate indemnity and expense reserving, litigation management, vendor management, settlement negotiations, and claim resolution.
- Maintaining effective claim file documentation, claim coding, and diary management.
- Retaining and working closely with defense and coverage counsel to create and execute litigation/coverage strategies and budgets, as well as analyzing and paying legal bills consistent with claims-specific strategy/budget and company Claims Litigation Management Guidelines.
- Providing effective and timely claim reporting (both verbal and written) to other claim professionals/management and business stakeholders, in accordance with company Claims Procedures.
- Attending mediations, trials, other proceedings, and meetings.
- Maintaining all required state adjustor licenses.
- Assisting CAMs and others with TPA management and oversight, which includes TPA claim staff training related to company processes, procedures, expectations, reporting, technical claim handling, litigation/vendor management, legal/regulatory developments, customer service, and other relevant topics.
- Sharing claim handling and customer service best practices.
- Assisting with claim file reviews and claim audits.
- Conducting regular meetings with TPA claims staff.

Education and Experience Information

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial general/auto liability claim handling, including responsibility for complex and large exposure claims, or be an insurance defense/coverage practicing attorney with similar law firm experience.
- Experience in trucking, construction, emergency service/medical professional liability claim handling is a plus.
- Experience in TPA management/oversight is a plus.
- Juris Doctorate is desired but not required.

Salary Information

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the specified locations, the base salary range is $145,000 - $165,000 per year. This position is incentive-eligible. Total individual compensation, which includes base salary, short and long-term incentives, will take into account several factors, including geographic location, scope and responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability, specialization, and business needs. The provided pay range may be modified in the future.
