Location:

  • Hartford, Connecticut

Duties:

  • Draft and review estate planning documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives

  • Advise clients on estate planning, probate processes, and trust administration

  • Represent clients in probate court proceedings

  • Develop customized estate plans in collaboration with colleagues

  • Conduct legal research and remain current on Connecticut estate law

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication

  • Guide clients through emotionally sensitive legal processes with professionalism

  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team growth

  • Organize and maintain detailed client files and records

  • Participate in internal meetings and contribute to firm strategy

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in trusts and estates law

  • Proven ability to manage complex estate planning and probate matters independently

  • Deep familiarity with Connecticut-specific estate planning statutes and procedures

  • Ability to represent clients in probate court and related forums

  • Strong track record of drafting trust-based estate plans and managing probate files

  • Willingness to work on-site in a collaborative law office environment

  • Excellent client relationship management and communication skills

  • A personable, dependable, and detail-oriented approach

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the Connecticut State Bar

  • Membership in the American Bar Association (ABA) preferred

  • LLM in Estate Planning or Taxation preferred

  • Board Certification in Estate Planning or related area is a plus

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of estate planning techniques (., irrevocable trusts, SLATs, GRATs, ILITs, QPRTs)

  • Courtroom advocacy and probate hearing experience

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Clear, empathetic communication style

  • Legal writing and document preparation expertise

  • Ability to work independently while being an active team member

  • Positive attitude and sense of humor valued
