**Job Title: Law Clerk 2025 - 2026**

**Job Responsibilities:**

Law clerks in the **Members Only** are integral to the judicial process, performing a wide range of duties across various court divisions. Responsibilities differ slightly depending on the court in which the clerk serves:

- **Supreme Court Law Clerks:** Work directly with justices on complex legal cases, conducting detailed legal research, preparing written memoranda on novel legal issues, and assisting in the preparation of opinions.

- **Appellate Division Law Clerks:** Analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions. They are also responsible for preparing weekly memos for judges, editing opinions, handling emergent applications, and assisting with additional research projects.

- **Superior Court Assignment Judge Law Clerks:** Learn all aspects of court administration, assist with processing emergent motions, and conduct research and prepare legal memos. They manage the judge’s docket and communicate regularly with counsel and court staff.

- **Trial Court Law Clerks (Civil, Criminal, Family Divisions):** Observe judicial proceedings, attend conferences with attorneys and judges, receive training in mediation, and mediate small claims cases. They prepare bench memoranda, perform legal research, draft legal orders, and assist with case management.

- **Tax Court Law Clerks:** Engage in duties similar to those in the Appellate Division and trial courts but do not mediate cases. They review motions, conduct legal research, draft case management orders, manage the motion calendar, and assist with remote proceedings.

- **Family Division Law Clerks:** Conduct legal research, assist with remote proceedings, communicate with self-represented litigants, and manage adjournment requests. They handle cases involving adoption, child placement, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence, and other family-related legal issues.

- **General Equity (Chancery) Division Law Clerks:** Conduct legal research, review case files, draft orders, interact with counsel and litigants, and attend hearings and trials as allowed by the judge.

**Education and Experience Information:**

Applicants must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their law clerk appointment. The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those who have graduated within the last four years. Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential. It is beneficial to have completed a course in mediation prior to the start of the clerkship. Trial court law clerks who mediate must complete the Judiciary-sponsored 12-hour mediation training or its equivalent.

**Salary Information:**

Salaries for the 2024-2025 Court Term are as follows, with the 2025-2026 salaries to be determined based on funding availability:

- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900

- **Remote Work:** The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for up to four days per month of remote work outside Judiciary buildings, subject to certain technological requirements.
