Job Title: Senior Strategist
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Strategist is an integral part of the Strategy & Partnership department, tasked with overseeing threat response efforts and managing an integrated strategy involving field mobilization, litigation, communications, policy, and strategic partnerships. This role focuses on protecting and advancing the rights and opportunities of low-income immigrants and their families. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with department leaders to develop and lead strategic campaigns aimed at influencing political leaders and decision-makers at various government levels to protect immigrant rights.
- Selecting, implementing, and evaluating effective tactics such as grassroots activism and public education to inform future campaign strategies.
- Working cross-functionally to implement integrated advocacy campaigns that combine legal, policy, and communications strategies.
- Creating and implementing strategies to achieve campaign objectives using tools, data analysis, and best practices in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Steering partnership-building strategies for campaigns and projects, including partnership identification, outreach, and relationship maintenance.
- Supporting and participating in strategic litigation that aligns with campaign objectives.
- Writing, publishing, and speaking publicly to advocate for specific immigration measures and building support among NGOs, academia, and media.
- Ensuring the development of high-quality activism and advocacy materials, including toolkits and public education materials.
- Collaborating with the Communications team to generate social media and web content to mobilize partner organizations.
- Aligning NILC’s role and messaging under the larger immigration rights umbrella, engaging partner organizations, and building new strategic relationships.
- Identifying innovative methods to advance immigrant rights at state and federal levels and expanding NILC’s partnership base.
- Ensuring the integration of monitoring, evaluation, and learning best practices in campaigns, documenting learnings, and sharing results with stakeholders.
- Developing coalition-building strategies to enhance collaborative power for policy change.
- Continuously developing campaigning and project management skills and helping colleagues do the same.
- Managing threat response and project deliverables, including executing grant deliverables and overseeing project timelines.
- Supporting the work of the Development department as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Senior Strategist may manage outside vendors/consultants as required.

Education and Experience Information:
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience; JD preferred.
- 7 – 10+ years of experience in issue-based campaigns, non-profits, lobbying or consulting firms, or government roles, with non-profit or social justice organization experience preferred.
- Experience as an organizer, campaigner, legal service provider, litigator, or policy advocate with a strong understanding of the immigrant rights movement.
- Strong understanding of building strategic issue advocacy campaigns and engaging stakeholders.
- Proven track record with campaign organizing strategies and grassroots activation systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public policy or related field, JD, or other higher education a plus.
- Experience working in the immigration rights movement preferred.
- Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by diverse communities preferred; fluency in multiple languages desirable.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Senior Strategist role is $84,200 – $105,300. NILC offers a competitive benefits package including employer-paid healthcare coverage, dental and vision coverage, a 403(b)-retirement plan, paid parental leave, monthly stipends, pre-tax accounts for transit, health, and childcare benefits, and employer-paid disability and life insurance. NILC also provides a generous paid-time-off policy with 15 holidays and 22 days of paid time off annually, increasing to 32 days after two years of employment.
Work Environment:
The role is fully remote, with up to 10-20% overnight interstate travel required, typically quarterly. Remote work locations include various states such as Arkansas, Arizona, California, and others. Applicants must reside in one of the listed locations.
