Job Title: Assistant General Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant General Counsel reports directly to the General Counsel and is responsible for supervising a wide range of legal services and providing advice to the organization. This role involves close collaboration with the General Counsel, senior management, outside legal counsel, and employees at all levels. Key responsibilities include overseeing legal advice and analysis regarding healthcare regulatory and compliance matters to support the organization. The Assistant General Counsel supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel, utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Essential functions of the role include:
- Supervising the preparation, reviewing, and revising of contracts and other legal documents.
- Assisting with the development of system policies and procedures.
- Supervising the education of in-house legal counsel and staff.
- Overseeing the preparation, reviewing, and revising of physician and non-physician contracts, with a primary focus on physician contracts and compliance.
- Supervising outside counsel and providing legal support for the organization's corporate compliance, privacy, and security officers.
- Working with senior hospital administration and senior corporate management on legal matters.
- Structuring and negotiating business transactions, performing due diligence, counseling clients, performing legal research, and supervising closings.
- Drafting and revising a variety of legal documents, including contracts, resolutions, legal opinions, and escrow agreements.
- Reviewing, checking, and/or directing the work of department staff.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Eleven years of relevant experience is preferred, particularly experience in a major law firm or in-house experience in a large, complex organization. Additionally, the candidate must be licensed in the state of practice.
Salary Information:
The estimated base pay for the Assistant General Counsel position is $71,760. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
