Job Title: Internship Spring

Job Responsibilities:
The internship involves providing civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elder residents with various legal issues. Interns will engage in community-based advocacy, delivering high-quality, time-sensitive assistance to at-risk individuals. Responsibilities may include:
- Providing client services and advocacy
- Conducting intakes and gathering information
- Performing research projects
- Assisting staff with case preparation
- Observing court hearings and other legal proceedings
- Assisting in case work and providing direct service to clients
- Attending events, learning opportunities, and trainings

Education and Experience Information:
The internship is open to law and undergraduate students, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Experience and availability will determine the depth of work and experience offered. SCCLS considers all kinds of experience, not just credentials, so applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Interns are expected to commit to the following:
- Academic-year interns: Plan for 10 hours of work per week, with flexibility to accommodate academic and work schedules.
- Summer interns: Work full-time (35 hours a week, five days a week) for approximately 10 weeks. Modifications may be possible depending on school or program requirements.

Interns with more availability or who commit for a longer period may have more opportunities for intensive work and direct client service. Interns in longer-term or larger-scope programs, such as a co-op, may have opportunities for direct representation on certain legal matters, depending on experience, skill level, and relevant certifications.

Salary Information:
Interns are not directly compensated by SCCLS or JCSM. However, the organizations will support and assist candidates who have secured alternative sources of funding and will prepare necessary paperwork promptly upon request. Fellowship applicants and participants in work-study programs through schools are also accepted.

Additional Information:
SCCLS and JCSM offer hybrid in-person and remote work options, although fully remote options are typically unavailable. Field offices are located in Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford, and Hyannis. Active practice area units include housing, family law, consumer law, benefits, elder law, education, immigration, and housing. Additional projects may be available based on yearly funding opportunities.

Application Process:
Applications are considered on a rolling basis, but availability to host interns may be limited. For full consideration, submit a resume, two references, and a cover letter. SCCLS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and fostering an inclusive environment for staff, clients, and community members, especially those from marginalized communities.
