**Job Title: Staff Attorney - Hybrid/Remote**

**Job Responsibilities:**

A Staff Attorney at the organization is responsible for a range of duties designed to provide comprehensive legal support and advocacy for low-income individuals. Key responsibilities include:

- Gathering evidence, advising clients about their rights, drafting legal documents, and conducting civil lawsuits.
- Interviewing clients and witnesses with cultural competence.
- Representing clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative government agencies.
- Interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the client community.
- Providing legal assistance in general civil law areas, which include but are not limited to employment, housing, family, foreclosure prevention, consumer, probate, special education, social security, public benefits, bankruptcy, and landlord-tenant law.
- Designing and executing outreach and community legal education initiatives.
- Collaborating with community and low-income community groups to further the organization’s mission of reducing poverty by providing equitable access to the civil justice system.
- Supervising and coordinating activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers.
- Managing a caseload involving substantial litigation and other justice-related advocacy.
- Attending evening legal clinics and participating in community legal education programs and outreach offered by the organization.
- Providing high-quality representation to indigent clients in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct, the Texas Lawyer’s Creed, and the American Bar Association’s Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services to the Poor.

**Education and Experience Information:**

The ideal candidate for the Staff Attorney position must meet the following qualifications:

- Prior experience in handling contested litigation cases is preferred.
- A strong understanding of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas Rules of Evidence.
- Prior legal services, public interest, or volunteer experience serving low-income individuals is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think and plan strategically, as well as develop and implement projects.
- Possession of a strong work ethic and a sense of accountability.
- Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written, is preferred.
- An excellent attendance record.
- Ability to engage in occasional work-related travel.

**Salary Information:**

The current entry-level salary for a new attorney is $73,815 per year. However, the salary for the successful applicant may be significantly higher, based on the applicant’s years of experience.
