Job Title: Tax Senior, Core Tax Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Senior, Core Tax Services is tasked with various responsibilities that leverage their research skills and foundational tax knowledge. They are responsible for identifying potential tax issues, gathering necessary client information for tax filings, and participating in tax planning. The role involves recognizing and communicating potential risks, preparing tax accrual workpapers, and utilizing tax software applications to complete tax returns for review. Additionally, the Tax Senior may supervise and review the work of Core Tax Services Associates.
Key duties include:
Tax Compliance:
- Ensuring clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
- Managing projects by planning the tax process and procedures with quality.
- Answering preparer questions and coordinating engagements by communicating expectations and procedures.
- Conducting detailed reviews on all returns and preparing appropriate review notes.
- Meeting internal deadlines to align with client expectations for timely service delivery.
- Identifying book-to-tax differences.
Research:
- Identifying when research is needed, framing issues clearly, and reporting analysis concisely.
- Applying firm and professional standards for the preparation of WTA and tax returns.
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals:
- Applying firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Preparing provision workpapers and discussing them with team members.
- Identifying and discussing uncertain positions with team members.
- Reviewing and preparing footnote disclosures in compliance with 740-10-55.
Tax Consulting:
- Assisting with developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes.
- Identifying consulting opportunities to reduce client tax liability.
- Providing support for client consulting projects.
- Gathering relevant information for controversy work efficiently.
- Documenting significant tax positions according to firm and office policies.
Strategy Development:
- Introducing and developing new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients or the firm.
- Preparing studies of tax implications and offering clients alternative courses of action.
Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise and manage the day-to-day work assignments of Core Tax Services Associates.
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback to Core Tax Associates as necessary.
- Acting as a mentor to Core Tax Services Associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics required, OR Bachelor’s degree in another focus area with CPA certification required.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- Two or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience preferred.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred.
- Prior basic supervisory experience preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions as directed by members of the Tax Team.
- Capability to prepare simple tax returns.
- Initiative to take appropriate actions without being asked.
- Ability to seek advice from superiors regarding compliance-related issues.
- Ability to delegate work effectively as needed.
- Ability to train other team members.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
Salary Information:
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after considering various factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The salary ranges for different locations are as follows:
- California Range: $84,000 - $110,000
- Colorado Range: $80,000 - $85,000
- Illinois Range: $80,000 - $93,000
- Maryland Range: $85,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota Range: $75,000 - $84,000
- Massachusetts Range: $85,000 - $95,000
- New Jersey Range: $80,000 - $100,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $90,000 - $115,000
- Washington Range: $81,900 - $91,400
- Washington DC Range: $95,000 - $98,000
