Job Title: Deputy City Solicitor – Affirmative & Special Litigation Unit – Election Law

Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy City Solicitor in the Affirmative & Special Litigation Unit is tasked with managing and handling individual civil litigation cases, particularly those related to election law. The role involves proactively advising the Philadelphia County Board of Elections and the City Commissioners on election operations, litigation issues, and strategies. This position is pivotal in overseeing the City’s elections, interfacing with various City departments regarding Election Day services and activities, and addressing election responsibilities and planning throughout the year. Additionally, the Deputy City Solicitor is expected to identify opportunities to advance the City’s interests and improve the work of the Law Department and the Unit. Collaboration with other Unit and Law Department colleagues is essential, fostering a collegial, inclusive, and professional environment.

Essential functions include:
- Appearing in federal and state courts in significant cases and settlement conferences.
- Providing proactive legal counseling to the Board of Elections.
- Researching and drafting legal issues, filings, and litigation documents related to the City’s election administration.
- Supervising and coordinating with outside co-counsel and co-parties in litigation.
- Participating in case and settlement strategy.
- Managing non-litigation driven projects.

Education and Experience Information:
This is an intermediate-level position requiring a minimum of four years of legal experience relevant to the subject matter and responsibilities of the unit. Candidates must possess a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and must either be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligible to be admitted by reciprocity to practice in Pennsylvania. Continued employment for attorneys not admitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six months of hire is at the discretion of the Law Department.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the position is $92,612 to $111,385, commensurate with education and experience.
